The key to becoming a proficient firefighter

Alternate locations for Fire School Berks County Fire Academy, Bucks County Public Safety Training Center is offering Haz Mat Awareness on-line for free to Pennsylvania Responders. Check it out.

Take a FREE independent study course in emergency management and more at the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Independent Study Program web site. All you have to do is download the course or send for a CD-ROM. Next, start reading your materials. At the end of the course, you mail in your test or take it on-line. The certificate of completion will be mailed. You can even apply for college credit for your Independent Study Course. It is one easy and convenient way to gain college credit in your spare time. Keep your skills sharp and go to Firehouse.com and take First Responder Response Operations Training Modules, sponsored by the IAFF. These on-line modules are for sharpening your skills and no certificates are awarded. 

The Illinois Fire Service Institute (University of Illinois) is developing FREE on-line fire schools or a virtual campus that is being funded by the National Fire Academy. Hazardous Materials Awareness is one of its offerings and they are working on developing Hazardous Materials Operations. 

Take a class at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (University of Maryland). Locations are all over Maryland and the closest location being at Aberdeen

Check the Montgomery County Fire Academy's web page for the Spring and Fall course schedules. The site gives the dates, times, contact numbers, and directions to all of the classes.

This is probably the best training facility in the world. Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is where the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center is located. Part of the Texas A & M educational system, it is the most advanced school for emergency responders in the entire world.

 

Go to the The National Fire Academy's main page at the U.S. Fire Administration's web site for a list of FREE on-campus and off-campus fire schools. Firefighters go directly to the U. S. Fire Administrations Self Study Courses  and complete a class on incident command, Fire Service Supervision, or Emergency Response to Terrorism at home in your spare time

Train to conduct searches in collapsed buildings from the National Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Response Systems web page. FREE online manuals are available for downloading at this site.
